Here is a random list of must-try desserts (along with places where you can get them!) for anyone who lives / tours / visits Dubai.
- Chocolate Bar / Salted Caramel Cheesecakes at The Cheesecake factory Dubai Mall / Mall of Emirates / Dubai Festival City / Jumeirah Beach Residence
For all lovers of cheesecake, without doubt, head towards any of The Cheesecake Factory outlets and dive into one of these delectable wonders. A slice costs AED 32 – 34 which is a pretty good deal with respect to the size of the portion. Of all the varieties I’ve tried, the Chocolate Bar and Salted Caramel cheesecakes stood out.
Nearest Metro: Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall (for Downtown outlet)
2. Chocolate Cake in a Jar at Urban Seafood, China Court Ibn Battuta Mall
Layers of moist gooey chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate shavings and crunchy salted caramel all served in a mason jar that’s actually good to share between two people (and at AED 25, such a steal!).
Nearest Metro: Ibn Battuta
3. Lotus Dream at No. 3, Box Park Al Safa
The Lotus dream (priced at AED 35) is basically a cream waffle sandwich served with a cup of caramel toffee sauce and crushed Lotus biscoff crumbs and a Lotus biscuit on top (which they also claim to be their best-seller!). Most of the dishes here are waffle-themed and depending on your taste, you may or may not savor them.
Nearest Metro: Business Bay

4. Butterscotch ‘Blondie’ Sundae at Clinton Street Baking Company, Downtown Dubai
This dessert is comprised of scrumptious homemade blondie bars, in-house prepared vanilla ice cream, copious sprinkles of salted caramel sauce n’ butterscotch chips and priced at AED 40. Recommended for butterscotch fanatics!
Nearest Metro: Almost equidistant from Business Bay / Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall
5. Nutella Milkshake at Freez, Al Quoz
Well, what can I say? One sip of this milkshake (served in a Nutella jar!) gets you hooked. Thick, luscious n’ as Nutellaic as it gets. You’re most definitely bound to crave for more! Finding this spot however can be quite tough.
Nearest metro: Noor Bank

6. Oreo Blast at Scoopi, Umm Suqeim
Priced at AED 39, this dessert is a total crunchy indulgence prepared using the liquid nitrogen technique. The combo of chocolate ice-cream, frozen oreo crumbs, chocolate toppings/sauce may not be everyone’s favorite, but I’d recommend it to anyone who’d love to introduce something quite unique to their taste buds. This joint is easy to spot as well.
Nearest metro: Equidistant from FGB / Noor Bank

7. Lotus Drama at Parker’s, Dubai Mall
A dramatic fusion of Lotus biscoff pudding, vanilla ice-cream and Lotus fudge sauce priced at AED 37. Parker’s is actually a slider joint; so if you happen to, just happen to be disappointed by the sliders, there’s a good chance this choice of dessert can turn your mind around. TOOTHSOME is the word!
Nearest metro: Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall

8. Double Frrrozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity 3, City Walk Al Safa
At AED 45, this one is apparently a celebrity favorite. Gives you a brain-freeze if you attempt to treat it like a normal sundae. Instead, you warm it down a bit with hot chocolate sauce so the frozen inner section melts to form a wonderful creamy blend. Great concept, neatly executed. A beauty with taste is what Frrrozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity 3 is.
Nearest metro: Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall

9. Soft-serves at Milkcow, Jumeirah Beach Residence
Priced between AED 18 – 27, I’d highly recommend the M3 Milky Cube (Soft-serve with fresh natural honeycomb AED 25) M5 Black Pearl (Soft-serve with chocolate almonds, sea salt and hazelnut syrup AED 27) and M10 Cookies & Cream (Soft-serve with Oreo crumbles – AED 23). If you haven’t checked out this South Korean joint yet, then you’re definitely missing out on something major!
Nearest metro: DAMAC Properties
10. Monster (Freak) shakes at Fume Downtown / La Pulpe, Oud Metha / Black Lion, H Dubai / Boombalambuz Cafe, Jumeirah 3 / Downtown Cafe, Al Karama
A freak shake is, in simple words, a thick creamy milkshake with a dessert topping. Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the lobby area of H Dubai, The Black Lion is a dimly lit, chic British pub. Ranging from AED 45 to 75, the Freak Shakes here come in various flavours such as Strawberry Jam Donut, Pecan Pie, Raspberry Eton Mess, Nutella Cookie, Banoffee and Pistachio Blondie. Fume Downtown’s got their variety in the form of Berry Freaky, Bro Nut, Funky Cheesecake and Popping Cereal. For the more economical options, try the ones at La Pulpe (behind Movenpick Hotel Oud Metha) or the recently opened Azerbaijani joint – Boombalambuz Cafe in Jumeirah 3 or Downtown Cafe in Karama. MIND=BLOWN!!
Nearest metro: Varies
11. Cheesy Kunafa at Feras Aldeyafa Sweets, Al Barsha 1
For those who don’t know, kunafa or kanafeh is a cheesy dessert soaked in sugar syrup that has its origins in the Middle East. And Feras Aldeyafa Sweets pretty much nails it. At AED 17.50 per 250 gm, this one is certainly worth a try for all those wishing to seek authentic (palatable) experiences. Happy belly guaranteed!
Nearest metro: Equidistant from Mall of Emirates / Sharaf DG
12. Cupcakes / Cakes at Hummingbird Bakery CityWalk / G’s Bakery & Cafe JLT
I’d recommend the cakes n’ cupcakes from both these places as they are truly, honestly, sincerely worth it. Red Velvet Nutella and Kitkat Swirl cupcakes (AED 14-15) are my picks from G’s while the Rainbow n’ Chocolate Devil’s Food cakes (AED 20 per slice) win hands down at Hummingbird’s. Plenty of customization options too, depending on the occasion.
Nearest metro: Varies (Burj Khalifa – Dubai Mall for HB; Jumeirah Lake Towers for G’s)
13. Gelato at Dri Dri Box Park, Al Safa
Try the Strawberry n’ Cream Cookie flavors (AED 19 – 29 for 2-3 scoops). The strawberry scoop tastes so fresh and yummy. It almost feels like you’re eating a real fresh strawberry plucked off a tree . The staff is courteous and lets you try as many samples as you want before finalizing your order. The joint is small and there are customers here almost all the time, either sampling or buying but not as many counters to serve them. If you are patient enough to await your turn, then you’re in for a TREAT! #BeatTheHeat

14. Cheesecake Killer / Vatolicious / Viva La Shake at Shakeism Milkshakes, Al Barsha 1
Located in one of the alleys in the Barsha area, Google-maps is the best way to get you there [without much hassle]. It is a tiny joint with a few metal chairs and tables. One side of the wall has the quote ‘Taste The Revolution’ in bright yellow neon. The other side is the wall-art [a pictorial representation of their shakes as if they were characters from Hollywood films]. The Viva La shake is a complete winner. Thick [as I like them!] and sufficiently sweet with bits of Daily Milk, Oreo and chocolate chip cookies. For addicts of Cheesecake and Kinder, try the other two as well. At AED 27 (AED 24 earlier), the portion is also quite okay. Don’t go AFTER a meal, go FOR THE MEAL (by clubbing the shake with a gooey grilled cheese sandwich!). Total gem of a place! Opening in Satwa soon.
Nearest metro: Mall of Emirates
15. Kulfi varieties / Royal Kulfi Falooda at Kulfilicious, Al Karama
Ranging from AED 10 for a stick to AED 18 for a large bowl of cubes, this place is quite easy on the pocket as well. The interiors make you feel like you stepped into a North Indian cafe. The music played is mostly desi. My picks would be Gulab Dani, Banarasi Paan, Choco Ali and Oreo Irani. Or go all-out and gorge on the yummy Royal Kulfi Falooda (AED 21-27) that comes with 3 kulfi flavours of your choice, rabadi, rose syrup, jelly and nuts.
Nearest metro: Burjuman
